Spencer unites school and community with personal best

Ashley Spencer united a school, a city, and an entire state last night in the span of 53.72 seconds without even knowing it. Spencer ran in the finals of the 400M Hurdles last night, after winning both her preliminary heat and semi final, and tabbed a time that slotted her to stand upon the Bronze Medal podium alongside fellow American Dalilah Muhammad. Those 53.72 seconds, a personal best, gave her the first medal in Lawrence North history and made Spencer the first natural born Hoosier to stand upon the podium for Track. Her trip to the finals was momentous enough, however her third place finish in the world, put her entire city on her back and once again proved for America to be the dominant force in Track and Field they are. After six IHSAA state titles and two NCAA titles, Spencer adds to her impressive haul of Track Titles only two months removed from her 23rd Birthday. Spencer will look to continue her success at the World Championships in 2017 in London, the 2019 World Championships in Qatar, and the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
