North Star Time Capsule: 1979 Homecoming kicks off

North Star takes a look through the archives in the weekly edition of the North Star Time Capsule. This week we take a look back at a North Star story from 1979 about Homecoming.

The alumni and students are in for an exciting round of Homecoming events this year. Events scheduled are a bonfire, a carnival, a fish fry, the game between the Wildcats and the Pike Red Devils, the float competition, the choosing of the Homecoming Queen and the dance with the return of Malachi.

Robin Shew, ‘78 graduate, is excited to go to Homecoming because she’ll be able to see people she hasn’t seen in awhile plus she enjoys the events that go along with Homecoming.

Working on the floats is a fun part of Homecoming.

“ It brings each class closer together,” said senior Stephanie Paulsen.

Float building and the competition between classes seems to be an anticipated part of Homecoming this year.

Another exciting part of every Homecoming is the dance. This is the time when the girls worry about who is going to ask them, what are they going to wear, is their hair going to be in place, and are they going to be taller than the guy. The guys in turn get to worry about who to ask, where to go for dinner and what time, what to wear, how much money to bring and if they are going to double with anyone. This Homecoming weekend is going to be very eventful and the anticipation is in the air. It will take work and preparation. Don’t miss it.
