As part of David Miller’s internship with the township, he deals a great deal with design and graphics. He took photos of the LN vs. LC football game, which were later posted to the township’s Facebook page.

North Star: What is your internship?

Miller: I work for the district, Lawrence Township, over at the LECC which is the building that used to be Craig. I intern for the woman who does the PR and marketing for the district. I mostly do like design and graphics and stuff for them, because that’s what I’m interested in.

NS: How did you find out about it?

Miller: I was actually looking for internships elsewhere outside of the district all through the summer and didn’t have a lot of luck finding someone and Mr. Crousore at the beginning of the school year said “Hey, I’ll set you up with an internship with the district and you’ll get to do some of the same things.”

NS: How did you apply?

Miller: Mr. Crousore just did everything, I met with [LT Coordinator of Communications Dana Altemeyer] who is the person I work for just to make sure everythings was good to go.

NS: Did you have any competition for it at all?

Miller: No, I think I didn’t have to compete with anyone specifically because this was set up just for me. Kind of because I’m a student that has the ability to do something like that.

NS: What did this internship mean to you?

Miller: It’s really important for me because for my senior year I wanted to have an opportunity to learn that wasn’t specifically just in the classroom. I know that I’m going to college for industrial design, for art and design related things. I wanted to go out in the real world and have some work experience to better transition me into college and to keep me engaged for my senior year.

NS: What significance does this opportunity have on your future?

Miller: I thinks it’s great work experience for me and it’s also something to put on my resume, my college applications, that I worked for the school district, I was part of the rebranding of Lawrence Township.

NS: What does the internship entail?

Miller: Really a lot of things and some things I wasn’t exactly expecting. I’ve had to write a press release which was not something that I ever thought I would do. But mostly for me it’s graphics and design, I do posters on Photoshop you’ll probably see later. We’re doing a prep parent and family resource engagement program which is a speaker series and there will be posters up over the school that I designed. I take the powerpoints that people make from the township office and they send them to me and I make them look good, things like that.
