ACP Speech now offered for juniors and seniors

ACP is the Advance College Project through IU. The teacher in charge is Rebecca Cash and answered a of questions regarding the project.

Q: What exactly is the ACP, what do you guys do?

Cash: The course I teach is PL155 – Public Communications.  It is IU’s introductory speech course.  ACP courses are $25 a credit hour.  Generally most classes are 3 credits. This is a HUGE savings to students instead of taking it at college.  These courses are also accepted by most colleges, so you get college credit here at LN and already have a college transcript from IU.  Students study public speaking and communication throughout the semester and give four speeches.

Q: Why is it important to our school?

Cash: These classes are important for students because they truly are a transition from high school to college.  We follow the same policies and assignments, but we can help support students in gaining the skills before being cast into the more difficult college life.

Q: How can students join?

Cash: Students need a 2.7 GPA to take an ACP course.  For PL 155, my speech class, they also need to be a junior or senior.  I would recommend it to any student who is planning on going to college.  The savings and opportunity to get this course out of the way is really great!

Q: Do you guys have any upcoming projects we should know about?

Cash: Students are just getting ready to present introduction speeches.  I’m looking forward to hearing more about each of them and seeing how they do in front of the class.
