LN vs Carmel: What you need to know
The boys basketball team sits at 12-5 (1-3 in the MIC) after splitting a pair of games last week with Center Grove and Fishers. A trip for a matchup with the Carmel Greyhounds is next on the docket for the Cats as they look for their second conference win on the season. Carmel is 11-5 after sneaking out a win over New Castle, the top ranked team in 3A. Follow @ln_northstar for updates from Eric Clark Activity Center.
Frontcourt stud: The Greyhounds rely on 6’9” junior John Michael-Mulloy who is committed to play for the hometown Butler Bulldogs. Mulloy has nice passing abilities which Carmel uses to play through him at times. He’s much more crafty than a clunkier big man and has a nice mid-range jumpshot. Mulloy should matchup well with some of LN’s size upfront.
Familiar Foes: Tonight will be the first of three straight MIC games for LN who is 1-3 in their conference. The Cats fell two games below even in the MIC last Friday night as Trayce Jackson-Davis nailed a three quarter court shot to lift Center Grove over LN. A win tonight could kickstart a stretch that would bring the Cats above .500 in conference play. LN will take on Pike and Ben Davis in their next two matchups.
Hot Hounds: The Greyhounds have won three straight and a four of five games heading into tonight’s game. Since a 1-point loss to Pike on January 19, Brownsburg and Ben Davis and New Castle have all fallen at the feet of the Greyhounds. Their most notable win in that stretch came when Carmel halted the New Castle come back and pulled off a dramatic win over the top ranked Trojans.
Terrific Trio: LN squeaked out a 77-68 overtime win over Fishers in their last matchup, though what makes the headline here is not the win, but the performance of three Wildcats in the win. The Wildcats were lead Jared Hankins, Tony Perkins and Mike Saunders who combined for 55 points. Hankins scored 19 to lead LN in scoring and Saunders totaled 18 of his own. Tony Perkins added 18 points in arguably the best offensive output of his high school career.
