Last night, both the baseball and softball teams defeated conference foe Warren Central by scores of 9-1 and 5-2 respectively. They look to continue the winning trend tonight with the second game of the week for both teams. Softball plays host to 2-2 Perry Meridian while baseball travels to 2-1 Warren Central for the back end of a home and home with the Warriors. Here are a few things to look for heading into tonight’s action:

Bombs Away: The softball team can credit their 2-0 start to the season to their ability to hit the home run ball in the young season. The Cats already have 7 home runs in wins over Warren Central and Speedway, including a five home run performance against the Sparkplugs. Sophomore Taylor Erschen leads the team with 3 HRs while fellow sophomore Anna Florczak is not far behind her with 2 HRs in two games. Katie Demas and Cierra Taylor both have 1 HR.

Offensive Prowess: The baseball team is averaging more nearly 8 runs a game in the span of their four 2018 games. The Cats notched 9 runs last night against Warren Central and posted two performances of 8 runs in wins over Franklin Central and North Central. Even in a loss to the Panthers on April 6, the Cats tallied 5 runs. Look for the Cats to continue their hot streak as they take on the home-standing Warriors tonight.

Taylor’s Tools: After pitching LN to a sectional title in in the 2017 season, Taylor Erschen has notched a rather impressive stat line for the Wildcats to begin the 2018 year. The sophomore has allowed 3 runs in 14 innings in the circle, with only two of those being earned runs. Erschen has struck out 13 batters after 6 Ks against Speedway and 7 Ks against Warren Central. She has an ERA of 1.000 in two wins this season.

Dual Threat Combo: While Senior pitcher Garrett Burhenn has made a name for himself for his work on the mound, Burhenn has been a consistent offensive threat for the Wildcats this season. Last night, Burhenn posted his first-career home run in the fourth inning of the win over Warren Central. After a six RBI performance last night, Burhenn is up to 12 RBI for the season and has an average of .600 in 12 plate appearances. Burhenn has been responsible for 12 of the Cats 30 runs so far this season.
