Band is hosting a car show to raise funds for the band program
LN Band’s Car-mmunity Car and Motorcycle Benefit will take place on Sept. 30 between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. in the student parking lot. Students will be able to see many interesting cars such as Dodge Chargers, Challengers, Mustangs and different types of motorcycles. Admission is free, however, it is $15 to enter a vehicle into the car show. There will be concessions and a barbeque.
“It is a general fundraiser for the band. The money will go towards getting new instruments, repairs, helping kids pay for private lessons, sectional coaches. We do have trophies for Top 25 vehicles,” Band Director Connor Vaughn said.
Vaughn has previously done a car fundraiser for schools in the past and is hopeful that the Car-mmunity fundraiser will bring in 300-400 people. Vaughn is the event coordinator for the Dodge Chargers and Challengers and knows some of the other people involved in other car clubs.
“We have some really nice motorcycles. I know we’ll have a lot of Dodge Chargers and Challengers and the Indianapolis Corvette Club. I think we have the Mustang Club coming out. Supposedly, we’ll have a couple of Ferraris there and I think we’ll have a local dealership bring out some of the new 2018 models,” said Vaughn.
Like most band students, junior Benjamin Douglas joined band because of older siblings and family members. Douglas is a percussionist and loves the atmosphere of the band program.
“I joined partially because my sister did it and she seemed like she had so much fun and she had met so many friends in it. I like meeting people I have something in common with and it’s a really fun community. I’m really glad I joined.” said Douglas.
Douglas is very excited about the Band Car-mmunity Car and Motorcycle Benefit. The fundraiser will help draw people to the school, according to Douglas.
“Not only are there going to be some really cool cars there, but it’ll also help support the band and the school. And there is going to be good barbeque.” said Douglas
