In the next few months the LN dance program will begin preparing for their recital in April. The recital will take place on April 11 and 12 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. The tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students with an ID.

The dance classes have not begun working on their choreography yet, but students are eager to get started.“It should be exciting because this is my last recital,” senior Kaylei Abram said.

The recital will be a tribute to Aaliyah, a famous R&B singer in the ‘90s who was killed in a tragic plane crash in 2001. This year will the 17th anniversary of her death. Dance teacher Chaevon Latham says that her inspiration for the show came from a dance class that had previously done a dance to an Aaliyah song. The students were eager to do a full show. Latham says she chose Aaliyah to be the focus of the show because she’s pretty well known and most people know of her and at least one of her songs.The show will feature many genres of music allowing for a connection of many different types of people.

“It’s not just hip-hop,” Abram said. “It’s different genres of dance like majorette, hip-hop, lyrical [and] jazz, so it should be fun for everyone.

The recital will feature many popular songs by Aaliyah such as “Are You That Somebody” and “Try Again.”

¨Dance concerts are just so fun. They’re so hype, even if you’re sitting down you’ll be excited,” freshman Charlotte Harkins said.
