On Tuesday Nov. 5, there will be a synchronous eLearning day for all Wildcats. This means students will be learning and engaging online at home.
According to assistant principal Brian Atkinson, election day is an e-learning day because LN is a voting site that usually has a large turnout.
“We expect a lot of people here,” Atkinson said. “It becomes particularly difficult in the morning with the arrival time, and we’re all competing for this parking lot, and then when we depart. It’s really just about management.”
Tuesday is a red day and teachers will have a link on their class Canvas page. When students sign into the class for the period the teachers will tell them about any assignments they have for the students to do on that day.
It has been awhile since students have done asynchronous learning for classes. The last time, teachers used Zoom, but this year, the school has switched to a new meeting app called Microsoft Teams that teachers have been trying out with students. Some classes have been practicing and seeing what it’s all about so they are prepared for tomorrow.
“I’m going to have my chromebook charged and I will have all of my assignments posted on Canvas. I’ve been trying to tell my beloved students to do the same, and then we will just figure it out together,” Andrew Schroeder, English teacher, said.
Teachers and staff all expect that students sign into the Teams meeting at their normal class times. The day will follow the typical schedule with the only difference being everyone will eat A lunch (from 12-12:30). Also, students do not have to report to study hall, only to academic classes.
The students should remain in the online Teams meeting until the teacher gives more information and until the class period is over. Students will do work as they would if they were in the classroom or if they have time to do any work that needs to be done. When 3:40 hits students will be done with eLearning and can continue on with their day like they would after school.
While students have some mixed reactions to navigating online school again, there is one thing that many of them are excited about.
“I’m looking forward to sleeping in,” Addison Martin, sophomore, said.
