Five more athletes sign to play collegiality
Lawrence North athletics added more signees to the list of future college student athletes on Monday. The addition of five athletes, with two impending, grew the list to 29 seniors that have signed on or have committed to play college sports varying from basketball to track and field. Senior Daryus Lake who was a four-year member of the LN boys soccer program, signed with St. Joseph’s University (PA) on Monday. For Lake, signing on with the Hawks comes with great prestige.
“It’s an honor, just being one of the few people from the soccer team’s history to ever sign on to play college soccer is a blessing,” Lake said “I’m just going to try to represent the school in the best way I can, both in the classroom, and on the soccer field.”
Senior Josh Ward who was a member of the boys basketball team signed, along with teammate Jaylen McKay, to play basketball at IU-East in Richmond, Indiana. Ward sees the opportunity to play college ball as a chance to grow and expand himself, both in the classroom, and on the hardwood.
“It feels great, the thought of not playing basketball is frightening so I just want to continue to develop my game more, and get a good college education while I’m at it,” Ward said
Recent success from the boys soccer program, Lake says, will leave a lasting legacy for future generations of Wildcat soccer players and athletes.
“Well, me and my team were one of the first teams to win a sectional title and move on to regionals , and personally, I am the first player from LN to earn an all-state honor, so I think that me and my team have left a lasting legacy here at LN,” Lake said.
