Seniors and their families who are in need of financial aid are encouraged to complete or correct the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) form by the national deadline of April 15. While the deadline is April 15, students are encouraged to submit the FASFA as early as possible. Students who submit it later are not always eligible for as many scholarships.

Lawrence North has created one last day for seniors and their families to complete the form at school.

¨FAFSA is the vehicle that all colleges use as a starting point to see what you need financially,¨ Guidance co-director Connie Sivertson said.

The opportunity to families to fill out the form together at school will be held on Feb. 21 from 4-7 p.m. in Computer Lab 100. All families are welcome to participate in the free event. In order to fill out the form correctly, families will need to bring their financial information, social security number, alien registration number (if you are not a U.S citizen) and a copy of their 2017 tax return.

¨Every senior that plans to go to college next year is encouraged because it allows every finance office to look at you as a student with need,¨ Sivertson said.

In addition to the FAFSA event at LN, other educational facilities will be hosting more events to complete the form on Sunday, Feb. 24. These locations include Arsenal Technical High School, Avon High School, Beech Grove High School, Center for Leadership Development, Decatur Central High School, George Washington Community High School and Ivy Tech Community College. Spanish Interpreters will be available at Arsenal Technical High School, Decatur Central High School, George Washington Community High School and Ivy Tech Community College.

Seniors are greatly encouraged to fill out the form according to the deadline of the colleges of their choosing. If the forms are not turned in by the college´s listed deadline then the college will not accept the form. It’s completely free to fill out the form. FAFSA can be filled out online or at one of the educational facilities listed. Result dates may vary. LN will be hosting an event to review FAFSA award letters on March 7 at 5:30 p.m.

¨FAFSA will open doors that you may not have even known that you had,¨ Sivertson said.
