Kilian Brendel (Germany)

What is one stereotype about America that you have found to be true or not true?
“That America is the land of the free. I think it’s kind of untrue because as a 16 year old, I don’t feel free. I have a lot of rules, more rules than I have in Germany.”

What is one food that is very different than from where you come from?
“You have a lot of Mexican food here. In Europe you have Italian and a little bit of Spanish but not as much Mexican.”

If there was one thing from America you could take home with you, what would it be?
“I would take Chipotle home.”

 

Lois Pierson (Belgium)

What is one stereotype about America that you have found to be true or not true?
“Fat people. I would say is kind of true and also everything is big like a store. I’ve never seen a tiny car.”

What is one food that is very different than from where you come from?
“French fries! I’m from Belgium so we love french fries. Here are not really like french fries. They are different.”

If there was one thing from America you could take home with you, what would it be?
“Teachers at school. They’re really cool. It’s really different from Europe. They are like your friend.”

 

Rahel Burgener (Switzerland)

What is one stereotype about America that you have found to be true or not true?
“There is a stereotype that American kids in school are really lazy, which isn’t as true as you expect it to be.”

What is one food that is very different than from where you come from?
“Cheese and bread. The bread here is sweet, which is weird. I’m used to homemade bread. We get our bread always at the bakery. Cheese is not supposed to be orange.”

If there was one thing from America you could take home with you, what would it be?
“I love the sports teams that the school has because it’s so easy to just go to practice after school in school.”

 

Josu Alvarez (Spain)

What is one stereotype about America that you have found to be true or not true?
“Everyone is fat. No, it is not true. I don’t know. There is fat people in Spain.”

What is one food that is very different than from where you come from?
“Pizza and tacos. They are better here.”

If there was one thing from America you could take home with you, what would it be?
“Food, the pizza and hamburgers.”

What is one stereotype about America that you have found to be true or not true?
“The pizza is very good here.”

What is one food that is very different than from where you come from?
“The shiny food (greasy food) is very different from my country.”

If there was one thing from America you could take home with you, what would it be?
“The education.”

 

Thirza Fanggidae (Indonesia)

What is one stereotype about America that you have found to be true or not true?
“So in my country the stereotype is America the people are individualistic, they are not friendly and keep their secrets by themselves.”

What is one food that is very different than from where you come from?
“I mean all (of) the American food, I think we have in Indonesia. I think here, it’s not really spicy. Not really spicy food.”

If there was one thing from America you could take home with you, what would it be?
“People here really appreciate (time). I mean, if you say we have to come at seven, we have to come at seven. You come on time.”

What is one stereotype about America that you have found to be true or not true?

“I found out that it is not true that everyone is fat.”

What is one food that is very different than from where you come from?

“German food.The German food here is very Americanized.”

If there was one thing from America you could take home with you, what would it be?

“Cookies and cream ice cream.”

What is one stereotype about America that you have found to be true or not true?

“That everything is cheap here. When I first came here, I bought a water bottle at the airport and I thought it wouldn’t be that expensive, but it was, and they add tax to everything too.”

What is one food that is very different than from where you come from?

“There’s more carbs here, but it’s delicious, and I can’t stop eating.”

If there was one thing from America you could take home with you, what would it be?

“Memories here, my host family is very good to me and my friends here.”

What is one stereotype about America that you have found to be true or not true?

“The cheerleaders, what we see in the movies is completely true.” 

What is one food that is very different than from where you come from?

“The candy.”

If there was one thing from America you could take home with you, what would it be?

“School spirit.”

 

Lucia Doval Caparrini- (Spain)

What is one stereotype about America that you have found to be true or not true?

“A lot of people told me before I came that everyone was fat and that everyone loved McDonalds.”

What is one food that is very different than from where you come from?

“Mac and cheese. We have pasta, but not like that”

If there was one thing from America you could take home with you, what would it be?

“The school and the houses.”

What is one stereotype about America that you have found to be true or not true?

“I think that every high school has their own type of school spirit. I think that is true.”

What is one food that is very different than from where you come from?

“Peanut butter and jelly. Nobody eats that in Germany.”

If there was one thing from America you could take home with you, what would it be?

“The school spirit and some memories I had here with my friends and host family.”
