Yearbook begins angel book campaign
This year the LN yearbook staff will be ordering a few extra yearbooks to give to students who are not able to afford one. They are calling these books angel books to represent the idea of someone making a donation for a student as an act of kindness.
“The angel books are a thing we are doing to let underprivileged LN students have a chance to get a yearbook,” senior Shea True said.
According to Senior Meredith Apple while high school students might not want a yearbook now, someday they will look back at them to see their memories of high school and the people they went to school with.
“We understand that yearbooks are very expensive. Everyone at some point in their life, even if it’s not now they are going to want to look back at their life and see their memories,” Apple said.
The staff has been going out and asking for 60 dollar donations. Currently they are looking at purchasing about 30 angel books with the funds they have received so far. The people that donate may request the book goes to a certain student or can have it given to another student that they think the books should go to.
“It depends on how many people donate and then however many people donate will buy them and we put their name in the back of the book to recognize them as a sponsor for buying a book,” Apple said.
Yearbook advisor Sarah Bergsieker believes that all students should have access to a yearbook so that they can look back at their memories of the year and their memories of high school.
“They are important because yearbooks are so expensive but they’re such a representation of the entire school that it’s not fair that only a certain portion of students can have access to it. So they are important to give students that can’t necessarily afford one the opportunity to have a book to remember their year by,” Bergsieker said.
