Spring sports are almost here
Springtime brings the excitement of track season, attracting athletes to come gear up and get to state. As days grow longer and weather warms, they are preparing for personal bests, team triumphs, and unforgettable moments on the track.
“We are 13 weeks from state, and everything we do we are trying to get there,” head coach Mickie Barsic said.
Barsic has several goals for the team as they prepare for the season
“It’s very individual-based, but as a team how many girls we can get to state and how to improve them to qualify for them and to improve prs,” Barsic said.
So far the team has been conditioning and preparing for the indoor season first.
“We’ve been building our base, everything since November. We will be able to see how it’s been paying off. We have good numbers and a lot of old runners, so yeah, they look good,” Barsic said.
The first official track meet was March 6th and the outdoor starts after spring break
Junior London Holmes is looking forward to the season
“My goals for this season are to make it to outdoor and indoor state,“ Holmes said.
Holmes participates in long jump and high jump and anticipates a strong season this year.
“The team looks good right now and some things can be worked on,” she said.
Junior Leyana Taylor participates in long jump and short sprints ( 100s, 200s, 4×2, 4×1)
She believes that the indoor season went well, but she is also ready for outdoor to begin.
“I look forward to running and jumping new PRs,” Taylor said.
