During Superbowl weekend, Bad Bunny won three grammys for his new album “Debi Tirar Mas Fotos”. He was the first artist to win Album of the Year for a full album in Spanish. In two of his speeches he spoke out about what is currently happening in the country regarding immigrants. In one of his speeches he spoke out against ICE and how they have been treating immigrants and going about gathering them and deporting them.
He was talking about how immigrants, specifically Hispanics, as that’s who ICE has been targeting, are not animals, not savages, but humans. He also said that the way to go about fighting ICE and this current administration is to use our voices. He stated how adding hate will only make them stronger. The strongest way to fight back is to love, he states that love is the only thing stronger than hate, and how if we, as a people unite, we will be able to overcome all the hatred happening in our country.
In a different speech he was dedicating his award to people who left their country for America to live a better life. How he went through the same hardships and understands how they feel. Students have started to speak out themselves by holding walkouts to speak out against ICE. As citizens of this country, we need to speak out against what is wrong. With our voices we can move people, we can get people to join our side. We need to bring more attention to the evil that ICE is doing, with no repercussions. The more we speak out, the more help we can do.
We need to unite as one, as a country, as people, and bring to light what ICE has been doing. They kill citizens, they separate and ruin families, they hide their faces. They know what they’re doing is wrong, but believe it’s okay because the president says it is. Immigrants are humans, whether they be here illegally or not, they are humans. The process to become citizens takes years, up to decades, yet when someone tries to be here “the right way” ICE still takes them, as they are technically not here properly. They are not aliens, animals, or savages, but rather people, with emotions, families, and responsibilities, just like everyone else. The more you stand by just letting it happen, the worse it’ll get. Speak out. Protest. Show the government and ICE agents that what they are doing is wrong and unacceptable by using your voice.
Bad Bunny has been using his voice to speak out for a while now. He has done this in songs like “El Apagon” and “NEUVaYol” through these songs he has been speaking out against President Trump. Even though we don’t have a platform like Bad Bunny, we still need to speak out against what we think is wrong. We need to be like Bad Bunny and constantly speak out against what we think is wrong and stand up for what we believe is right.
During his Superbowl performance he spoke out even more. He included a lot of latin culture into his show. He stated how kids would sleep on chairs at parties, he included the power crisis currently going on in Puerto Rico, and much more. His overall theme was bringing people together and uniting the country and countries in America. At the end he said “God bless America!” and then named all the countries in North, Central, and South America. He showed a football that had the words “Together we are America’. He wants to unite the country, and even though he keeps facing pushback from MAGA, he continues to spread his ideals of uniting the people of America, all the countries, not just the United States.
