The top students of the Class of 2023 share their experiences, motivations, advice to future aspiring scholars
This year’s class has 110 distinguished graduates who will walk across the stage with their peers on June 8 at 7 p.m. at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum. As seniors prepare to graduate, the top five seniors vying for the valedictorian and salutatorian spots reflect back on how they got to where they are today.
Elizabeth Fritz Kent
1.What motivated you to get where you are academically?
My parents were a big help. They really pushed me to get all my work done, all the extra-credit done, and habit building before you get into high school also helped with my time management skills early on.
2. What is your fondest senior memory?
It’s between my Senior Night for the LN Swim Team or my Robotics Team competitions that we always did.
3.What academic advice could you give to other students?
Please don’t procrastinate.
4. How do you hope your success will Help you in the future?
I think with all the contacts I’ve made in school and doing extracurricular activities will help me get a good job outside of high school and also give me a better education going into college and help me get ahead of everyone else.
Logan Murray
1.What motivated you to get to where you are today academically?
Just curiosity and the belief that I’m capable. So if I’m capable, why not do the best I can?
2. What has been your fondest Senior memory?
Playing soccer with friends.
3.What academic advice would you give to other students?
Get work done on time, and don’t be afraid to ask for help.
4.How do you hope your success in school will help you in the future?
I hope my success in school will provide me with knowledge to further improve as well as prepare me for college.
Edgar Ocelotl Tecuanhuey
1.What motivated you to get to where you are today academically?
I would say my family is what motivates me to keep going and pursue my dreams as their American dream was to give my brother and I the luxury of opportunity that they never had.
2. What has been your fondest Senior memory?
Hanging out and joking around with my friends in every class and time outside
3.What academic advice would you give to other students?
True intelligence is the ability to be open and understand you don’t know everything but it is that awareness of not knowing that leads to one’s success.
4.How do you hope your success in school will help you in the future?
I hope my success in school will be the first steps I take towards the bigger goals I have and am working towards, to seek knowledge and improve on myself.
Emma Sheehan
1.What motivated you to get where you are academically?
I know that my younger self would’ve wanted me to succeed and I think picturing her in my head really motivates me and makes me want to do things for her.
2. What is your fondest senior memory?
Probably spring break.
3.What academic advice could you give to other students?
Don’t take it too seriously, and always try your hardest.
4. How do you hope your success will Help you in the future?
It’s taught me to have a good work ethic and that will help me a lot in college.
Quentin Troemner
1.What motivated you to get to where you are today academically?
Opening up opportunities, I’ve always wanted to try my hardest in school to give myself more opportunities whether it’s getting into a better school, getting better scholarships; so that I can hopefully get the career I want and learn the things that I want to learn.
2. What has been your fondest senior memory?
I went to Goodwill one time and found this giant stuffed monkey. It was the same color as our robotics team, so we bought that and we hung it up where we build our robots.
3.What academic advice would you give to other students?
Try your hardest. Don’t push assignments off to the side. If you really want to do your best you’re gonna have to put your best foot forward and stay disciplined.
4.How do you hope your success in school will help you in the future?
I’m hoping that it will get me more scholarships but also get me into better programs so that I can learn as much as I can. Because beyond just getting a good job, I really enjoy building things, especially computers and electronics, so knowing as much as I can will help me a lot in what I want to pursue.
